The visual effects community and entertainment industry as a whole has lost a true friend, dedicated colleague and beautiful gentleman.

Last week, VFX Artist and Cameraman, Randolph W. (Randy) Jonsson, passed away due to cancer at the age of 58.

With a multitude of credits to his name, Randy worked for years at Industrial Light & Magic first as a VFX Camera Assistant on such iconic films as STAR WARS, STAR TREK and BACK TO THE FUTURE, then as a Match Move Artist on such CGI blockbusters as JURASSIC PARK: THE LOST WORLD, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, and HARRY POTTER.

Despite his numerous contributions on such larger-than-life productions, what made Randy so down-to-earth, incredibly talented and well-respected was his kind soul, infectious smile and humor.

VES Bay Area Board Member & Former Chair David Tanaka had the privilege of working with Randy for over 15 years at ILM, but really got to know him and his beautiful wife, Kim, as true friends post-ILM upon hosting Bay Area VES screenings over the years that followed. He will be sorely missed, and will certainly never ever be forgotten.

Thank you, Randy.
